SWMSS: A Full Service Education Service Agency
SWMSS was formed after the Montana Legislature authorized the formation of multi-district education cooperatives during the 2011 legislative session. The legislation was the culmination of several years of work by the Optimizing Resources Task Force which partnered with the Montana School Boards Association to work with members of the legislature to pass legislation. The legislation allows school districts to participate in a multi-district agreement to form a cooperative enterprise that can provide any service that school districts normally use. By combining resources with the structure of a cooperative, school districts can realize the savings that can be had with the combined purchasing power of a much larger enterprise.

SWMSS members realize the buying power of 55 of 80 school districts on a 12 county region of southwest Montana. This region contains districts who educate over 35,000 students and contains the major cities of Bozeman, Butte and Helena.
