The Core Purpose of Southwest Montana School Services is to provide exceptional service to participating schools to unlock the potential of every child served by our members through optimization of resources, enhanced efficiencies, professional development opportunities, and collaboration of efforts.
SWMSS: A Full-Service Education Service Agency (ESA)
At Southwest Montana School Services, our mission is to unlock the full potential of every child in our region. We aim to accomplish this by overcoming the root cause of the problem in two primary ways. First, we have actively created business services designed to increase access to high-level, high-return services while minimizing, or in some cases, eliminating up-front costs to districts. Second, we provide world-class professional development services to educators and other professionals supporting student growth across our region while building communities of practice allowing geographically remote educators to feel connected and supported. Existing systems intended to support public school districts are themselves fragmented, often confusing, and not specifically designed to offer a continuum of related services meant to meaningfully support the needs of all educators across the region. In this vacuum, a number of for-profit companies, nonprofits, professional associations, and public agencies have attempted to fill gaps when positively identified, but there has been a dearth of cross-sector communication or alignment. Thus, many teachers, leaders, and school business officials don’t know where to turn for support, or even if they do, they have to spend large amounts of “seat time” going from organization to organization seeking help in addressing their multiple needs. Southwest Montana School Services’ approach turns this paradigm on its head. On the one hand, we provide business services that are specifically designed to save school districts money, freeing up resource to be directed towards our youth at the source. On the other, we provide world-class professional learning opportunities to ensure our educators, regardless of how remote they may be, are a part of a collegial learning network and have access to development programs to immediately improve practice in the classroom. SWMSS 52 members districts, who educate over 40,000 students, can be found mainly in southwest and south central Montana.
